Welcome to Långasjö

The village of Långasjö is situated in the beautiful countryside of Småland
and in the centre of the emigration region.

Between 1850 and 1930, more than 1400 people emigrated from the parish.

Some of them returned and resettled as homecomers.

You are welcome to visit an exhibition in the gold-digger cottage
to learn more about them.

A visit to Klasatorpet will show you the cottage life at the time of the emigration.

at the village church, you may appreciate
a coffee-break or an afternoon tea at the local heritage cottage.

An overnight stay in the old church stables is offered by the youth hostel.

The Local Heritage Society in Långasjö will give you the opportunity
to experience the village cultural development,
traditional festivals, architectural heritage, crafts an oral tradition.

Vilhelm Mobergs emigrant epic and the movie

The film director Jan Troell was looking for Korpamoen, a place and cottage
where Vilhelm Mobergs emigrant epic could be made.

When he came to Klasatorpet, he found what he
had been looking for and half a year later,

Klasatorpet had been developed to a home
for Karl Oskar, Kristina and their children.

Kristina was played by Liv Ullmann and Karl Oskar by Max von Sydow.

The filming was finished in spring 1969.
